About Eggboards: How a Longboard Got Shrunk in 19''

This isĀ storyĀ of Eggboards, whereĀ Paolo - the founder -Ā went from designing his ownĀ custom mini cruiser skateboard to creating a brand focused on freedom and smooth rides.

Hello!

My name is Paolo, born and raised in Rome, Italy. I moved toĀ California in 2015.

I hadĀ a longboard in ItalyĀ but it was hard to bring itĀ with me since it didn't even fit in myĀ suitcase. So I took off trucks and wheels and stuffed them in my bag.

Once inĀ CaliforniaĀ I looked for aĀ shorter deck that I could bring with me more often. I realized that all the available shortĀ skateboards have small trucks and wheels that feel unstable and far away from the feeling of a longboard.

So I started myĀ questĀ to combine longboard rides with the smallest possible board...

DESIGNING A SKATEBOARD

I'll be honest, I never designed a skateboard when I started... but I knewĀ how is the ride of a longboard!

This required some trial and error, with me going out to "test" new designs, and often ending on the ground because of some technicalities I didn't consider.

After several prototypes,Ā the Eggboard shape was born!

The egg shape is perfect because it's wide, but also narrower close to the trucks. In this way, the deck doesn't touch the wheel when turning, avoiding nasty "wheel-bites".Ā

The Final Test

Once happy with the design and the ride, I invited some skater friends over for lunch.Ā I cooked some pasta for them,Ā made sure to fill them up with red wine and then unleashed them with the Eggboards. The resultĀ is what you see in this video... everybody had fun!

First Sales

For the first year I used the Eggboards just as my personal skateboard to get around San Francisco.

I wasn't event sure if there was a market for a tiny longboard. ButĀ I kept on getting compliments from strangers about my board when riding around... so IĀ gave it a shot!

This adventure turned out to be awesome... and a good business! I'm lucky to have great friends and a wonderful girlfriend whoĀ  helped meĀ along the way.Ā

With the first sales I also got to know people that are excited about the Eggboard as much as I am...Ā I LOVE IT!

Venice Beach

In 2018 we moved to Venice Beach with my girlfriend, and Eggboards moved with us.

We miss San Francisco sometimes, but it's beautiful here!! And the Eggboard is perfect to cruise around theĀ boardwalk.

If you happen to be around Venice, please come visit!Ā Bring your Eggboard or borrow one of mine and we can go for a ride all together šŸ˜.

See you outside āœŒļø

Paolo.
